Innovation as Learning Ethic

As a teacher, I see my role differently than my own classroom teachers’ roles when I was growing up. I was taught a finite set of skills, often through readers, but I was not taught how to solve problems on my own. Instead, a lot of my “learning” was rote memorization. Shifting the focus of education away from teacher-centered learned toward problem-based learning, wherein students collaborate and use technology as a tool to solve problems, enables innovation to become the learning ethic in classrooms.
